Choeung Ek Cambodian Genocide
The Khmer Rouge kidnapped, tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands of their potential political threats between 1975 - 1979. The Cambodian genocide which took place under the ''Khmer Rouge regime'' led to 1.6–2 million Cambodian civilian deaths. Many people managed to escape to neighboring countries; Thailand and Vietnam. Danny's Mum and Dad were forced to work for Pol Pot. His mum building the roads in the rural village he grew up, while his dad guarded the Vietmanese border and given instruction to shoot anyone who tried to escape. If they didn't comply with these rules they would have been killed.
In my own words, the prime minister at the time, Pol Pot, wanted to kill people who he deemed were intellectual. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, even people who wore glasses or knew a foreign language. A power thing basically. Just like in our households. People were tortured and forced to give up name's and locations of their families and friends. There's obviously no justifiable reason for what he did.
Babies smashed to death against the tree. Often so that everyone from one bloodline was killed so no one would seek revenge. Visitors paying respects by leaving bracelets and other objects.
